Continuous, Automated Iron Removal with Conveyor Head Pulleys

Magnetic pulleys are installed as replacement head pulleys at the discharge end of belt conveyor systems to achieve continuous, automatic separation of magnetic contaminants. As bulk material travels along the conveyor belt and reaches the head pulley, non-magnetic materials are discharged in their normal trajectory. However, ferrous contaminants are attracted by the powerful radial magnetic field of the pulley, held against the belt, and carried to the underside before being released into a reject collection bin.

Our magnetic pulleys are constructed with heavy-duty stainless steel drums and are available with either ceramic or high-intensity rare-earth neodymium magnets. Designed to handle large volumes of bulk products, these pulleys are a cost-effective solution for waste recycling, mining, mineral processing, glass recycling, and wood chips handling plants, helping to maintain product purity and avoid critical downstream crusher damage.

FAQs About Magnetic Pulleys

1. How does a magnetic pulley operate? + It replaces the standard conveyor drive pulley. When the conveyor runs, it holds ferrous materials against the belt until they pass under the pulley, where the magnetic field ends and they drop into a reject chute.
2. What is the difference between a magnetic drum and a magnetic pulley? + A magnetic pulley rotates completely along with the conveyor belt, whereas a magnetic drum has an internal stationary magnet sector and only the outer shell rotates.
3. Can magnetic pulleys be customized to fit existing conveyors? + Yes, we customize shaft diameters, drum lengths, face widths, and overall diameters to match your exact conveyor frame and structural layout.
4. Do these pulleys require electrical power? + No, our standard magnetic pulleys are manufactured using high-strength permanent magnets (Ferrite or Neodymium), which do not require any electrical power source to operate.
5. What type of magnets should be chosen: Ferrite or Neodymium? + Ferrite magnets are cost-effective for large tramp iron like nails and bolts. Neodymium (Rare Earth) magnets are recommended for extracting small iron scales or weakly magnetic contaminants.
6. What maintenance is required for a magnetic pulley? + Because they feature permanent magnets enclosed in a stainless steel drum, they are virtually maintenance-free. Only regular lubrication of the shaft bearings is required.
